Robust Reds

  • Price $40.00

This three pack of full-bodied reds features two Grenache-based red blends inspired by France's Rhone Valley, produced in the hospitable growing conditions found throughout California. These red blends are crafted by two of California's most talented winemakers, Curt Schalchin (Sans Liege) and Helen Keplinger (Vermillion). The third wine, the Chateau Grand Jean Bordeaux Supérieur, is French through and through, a full-bodied, oak-aged wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

Collection includes 3 x 500 mL bottles (2/3 of a standard-size wine bottle) featuring the following wines:
  • 2016 Sans Liège "The Offering" Red: Sans Liège “The Offering” Red is about as close as a California wine can get to the legendary red wines of France’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape: powerful, primary fruit flavors with interwoven savory and spice notes for complexity and balance. After Curt Schalchlin graduated college in San Luis Obispo, California, he started making wine as a hobby. After just a few years, Curt decided to make wine full time and aimed to create a red that could measure up to the coveted wines of France’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape. No one in the Central Coast had blazed such a trail, so he chose the name Sans Liège (“without a leader”). This wine is a blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre.
  • 2015 Château Grand Jean Bordeaux Supérieur: Château Grand Jean Bordeaux Supérieur Red epitomizes the region’s classic balance of fruit flavors and soft tannins—but with a smoother, more modern feel and spice notes from the wine’s oak aging. This wine comes from Entre-Deux-Mers (“between two seas”), between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, which is the hot spot for Bordeaux’s young, innovative producers, who are making wines on a par with those of the big-name Left and Right Bank châteaux.
  • 2015 Vermillion Red Blend: When Helen Keplinger made the cover of Wine Spectator and was named Food & Wine’s winemaker of the year, it wasn’t because of the high-scoring, big-ticket Napa Cabernets on her résumé. It was for her Rhône-style reds from incredible vineyards others had overlooked. Helen is a master at creating captivating flavor combinations, whether from a single site or many. She mixed and matched grape varieties from her favorite plots to craft this fruit-driven, complex red. This wine is a blend of 53% Grenache, 32% Mourvèdre, 6% Petite Sirah, 4% Syrah, 4% Cinsaut, and 1% Counoise.
