Collection includes 6 x 500 mL bottles (2/3 of a standard-size wine bottle) featuring the following wines:
  • 2015 Bodegas VQ Grenache: If you were a Spanish wine merchant in the early 1600s, your business-travel accommodations were ventas— little roadside inns where you’d buy, sell or trade wine. The Bodegas Finca Venta de Don Quixote estate, Bodegas VQ for short, occupies the same site as a Cervantes-era venta. Unlike the author’s most famous character, winemaker José Fernando Pérez Salamanca suffers no illusions about his profession. He only aims to make delicious, world-class wines.
  • 2016 Brick & Mortar Vin Rouge (Pinot Noir/Syrah): It’s rare to find a blend of Pinot Noir and Syrah—then again, it’s rare to find a winemaker like Matt Iaconis. He only graduated college in 2008, but he searches offbeat areas for old-vine vineyards like a seasoned pro. All the more reason why he could see right away that the adjacent Pinot and Syrah vineyards he found would lead to a balanced fruity-spicy red. “I love the bright fruit of Pinot and the density of Syrah,” he says. “It’s a softer, more approachable wine.” This wine is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Syrah.
  • 2017 Lusu Cellars Carignan: David Teixeira grew up in a winemaking family, picking grapes with his relatives. All that early experience taught him that some of California’s best vineyards aren’t in prestigious regions—and not to fear Carignan. It often yields a hard-edged, tannic wine, but with attentive farming and careful handling you get a juicy, complex red that’s incredible when served with almost any dish. David’s mastery of Carignan has made him one of California’s most celebrated young winemakers.
  • 2016 Osorio Carmenere: Juan Francisco Osorio was a star winemaking student at the University of Chile, so after graduation Bordeaux’s legendary Château Mouton Rothschild came calling and lured him to France. After a few years, the Rothschilds tapped him to help start and run their Chilean vineyard and winery. Today he’s in charge of 1,200 acres of vines for one of Chile’s top producers. Juan Francisco manages every plot meticulously to ensure his wines pair well with a wide range of foods.
  • 2016 Antico Monastero Nebbiolo: After Luca Bosio earned his winemaking degree a few years ago, his parents were so confident in his talent that they renamed the family business for Luca and gave him control. Langhe is one of the few Italian wine regions where fresh thinking and experimentation are as valued as tradition—and Luca is the poster child for blending all three. He aims to create wines that honor the region’s centuries-old wine history (hence this wine’s name), yet are simply delicious with dinner.
  • 2016 Vermillion Red Blend: Didn’t catch Helen Keplinger on the cover of Wine Spectator a few years ago? No matter. You’ll join her legion of followers after your first taste of this red—crafted to be perfectly balanced and delicious with any dish. Helen’s secret: exacting farming standards, natural winemaking and masterful blending. But she’s the first to admit that California’s incredible 2016 season made her job easy. “The 2016 wines are gorgeous and nuanced,” she says. “One of my favorite vintages.”
